ACROPOLIS Overview

Purpose

The purpose of ACROPOLIS is to link experts from around Europe working on coexistence technologies such as spectrum sharing and cognitive radio, to obtain a rounded complement of European research and to investigate and bolster relevant research areas that are under-represented in the current European research repertoire. Such coexistence technologies within ACROPOLIS are aimed towards the optimisation of radio spectrum usage.

The main emphasis is to reduce fragmentation in European research in this field, and to translate cognitive communications and other coexistence paradigms into economic benefits.

ACROPOLIS was formed by partners mostly in the academic sector. The project aims to elaborate upon and refine its ambitious program of complementary research activities every year. In due course, ACROPOLIS will embrace collaboration with other projects to harmonize and disseminate results through its European-wide partnership.

Recent advances and achievements in ACROPOLIS will be shared and elaborated upon during jointly organized events with external teams and experts. ACROPOLIS will organize and participate in workshops, summer/winter schools, round-table meetings, and conferences, will establish electronic facilities for collaboration, and in general will promote a higher visibility and achievement of European research.

ACROPOLIS also focuses on the education of European researchers on advanced coexistence technologies, through the organisation of appropriate events and online course modules.
